Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:
Gracious God, this week as Christians celebrate the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus, we pray like Martin Luther that government officials learn to govern well by listening to Mary's song, the Magnificat.
Open our hearts to magnify Your glory and grace, O God. Open the eyes of officials to see people who live under poverty and oppression. Lift up people who are lowly and take down officials who are arrogant. Feed both the wealthy and impoverished with Your justice and mercy.
As You have saved our ancestors and as You have promised to do for our descendants, give today's leaders the same joy, wisdom, courage, and trust that You gave to Your servant Mary, the bearer of Your holy Word, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
