The Office of the Chaplain United States House of Representatives

Reverend Philip Ganir, S.J.

Gonzaga Jesuit Community
Washington, DC

Date of Prayer: 10/30/2020

Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:

Loving God, source of all healing and hope, thank You for the leaders and the diverse people this House represents, for strength of mind and body, and for the gift of freedom in our country.

Send Your spirit, Lord, to guide our leaders' work this day. May their labor bring greater justice, peace, and healing, especially to those who suffer most.

During this time of election, give all of us wisdom to discern wisely. Align our work with the freedom which defines and sustains us. In the face of disagreement, ground us in civility. When discouragement looms, let the spirit of mercy, and even a sense of humor, remind us of our humanity. And when the goals for the common good seem distant, inspire courage in all of us to act justly, mindful that Your good gifts become more apparent when we seek unity and peace.

Amen.
