One Minute Address
Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:
Lord, as we gather today, we pray for our Nation, for unity and peace. May we reflect on some of the painful lessons learned in times of suffering and strife.
Lord, convict us when we divide ourselves into tribes rather than seek to live as a united people and are surprised by our lack of unity.
Lord, correct our arrogance and teach us humility when we are tempted to assume that those with whom we disagree have nothing to offer us.
Gracious Father, forgive us when we tolerate or contribute to the language of destruction and hate and are shocked by acts of violence. Instead, imprint upon all who serve here the transforming truth that ‘‘we love because He first loved us . . . therefore, since God so loved us, we also are to love one another.'' For You tell us that apart from love, kindness, and mutual respect, we will accomplish little of lasting impact.
In the name of the Lord we pray. Amen.
