Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:
Almighty God, we come to You asking You grant us humility of heart and sobriety of mind as we lead the people You have entrusted to us.
Grant our Representatives wisdom from above and a steady resolve to administer justice over the land and people they have been appointed. Fill them with hope and dogged determination to work as if they are working for You and usher in Your Kingdom come.
And as the distractions and demands of life flood their day, create eddies for them to rejuvenate and refocus so they may faithfully discharge the duties of the office they fill. Encourage and strengthen them. May they enjoy Your shalom even as they face the ever–present daunting tasks before them. Please surround them with trusted companions and sagacious advisers that know and trust in You.
Jehovah Rophi, the God who heals, please heal our land. May we, these United States of America, truly be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. But above all, may each and every one of us truly grasp Your great and everlasting love. So, as we go about our day and every day, I pray we go give ‘em Heaven.
