Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:
O merciful benefactor, omnipotent source that redeems, as we open the Chamber of democracy, fill our hearts with Your presence.
Protect, enlighten, and inspire our congressional leaders as they fulfill their role of representing the people and fostering unity across districts near and far to promote solidarity and progress for all.
Grant them patience when discomfort and uncertainty threaten to cloud their judgment.
Instill in them perseverance and the courage to follow Your guidance, even when it is unpopular or difficult.
O hearer of our call, give them strength as they stand by their convictions while also being curious about the stance of others and open to the views of those whose convictions contrast or differ.
Protect each Member and their staff. Exalt their efforts as they carry out their duties. Protect the men and women of the United States Capitol Police, who safeguard them, and those who visit these sacred grounds.
For You are the exalter, and You are our protector.
We ask this with Your mighty name. Amen.
