Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:
Awesome, Almighty God, we come before you today remembering the words of Psalm 8:3–6 and gaining the perspective that comes from it. The scripture says:
“When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon, and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings, and crowned him with glory and honor.
You made him ruler over the works of your hands; and put everything under his feet.”
These are comforting words especially when we have impossible tasks ahead of us. When we consider you, oh God, and what you are capable of, it gives us peace to proceed and courage to lead! Thank you for helping us with the big, dramatic pieces of the universe. When something is too big for us, it is never too big for you! And thank you for helping us with the intricate things of this world. In sensitive, personal matters of the heart and mind, shine your light of truth and reveal insight from the inmost place leading us to freedom! And God, thank you for the reminder that you have made us for this moment—with heavenly precision and authority to act. May we go through the day mindful of you, inspired and hopeful.
I pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
