One Minute Speech Given in Recognition of the Guest Chaplain:

Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:

Lord God,

May our hearts and minds be quieted in this moment. May we take this time to catch our breath. And in this moment of pause, may all of us be restored and refreshed.

I pray for this House. I pray for those who hold elected office; for the staffers who support these offices; for the constituents they represent; and for all who are affected by the business conducted here.

May our ideas and ideals pull us more and more into a future of peace and prosperity, wholeness and justice. May we resist the lure of pure ideology in all of its forms, and keep humanity always before us. May this place truly be the People’s house. May compromise and mutual forbearance enable this good work. And, whether votes pass or fail, may the work here be done with honor, with compassion, with conviction and with an open heart.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen
